Smokey Sessions with Slowcoaster, Scientists of Sound & Motocross Stunts

Cape Smokey presents it’s third and final Smokey Sessions concert for 2022 with Slowcoaster, Scientists of Sound and Pro Motocross Athlete, Tyler Medaglia on Friday, September 9 at 7pm.

This high energy rock show with motocross stunts is shaping up to be the biggest party of the summer.

With the strength of their refreshing and versatile sound and intoxicatingly energetic live show, Cape Breton’s Slowcoaster have become one of the most popular jam rock bands in Canada. The members’ superior musicianship enables the trio to hammer out their own brand of high energy, guitar-based rock that incorporates touches of hip-hop, jazz, reggae and Afro-Cuban grooves. Guitarist / vocalist Steven MacDougall’s stellar song writing skills and evocative vocals add a defining soulful texture absent in much of today’s rock music.

Slowcoaster started to take shape in November 2000 when MacDougall hooked up with bassist Mike LeLievre. MacDougall brought with him a lifetime of tales which came alive in his songs. LeLievre’s innovative grooves complement MacDougall’s guitar work and vocals, weaving complex counterpoint melodies. Accomplished drummer Jordan Bruleigh adds a well-considered back beat to an already rich sound. The result is an honestly written yet danceable, sing-alongable, affecting, noir-ish collection of music that is as ‘tight as a whip’ while still accented by bursts of off the cuff humor.

Slowcoaster has won 2 ECMA’s for alternative album of the year, Music Nova Scotia award for Album of the Year and toured multiple times throughout Canada, Asia and parts of the USA.

Scientists of Sound’s signature anthemic rocktronica sound unites raging guitar hooks with hard hitting beats and epic gang vocal melodies. Combining elements of electronica with the energy of a rock band with something to prove at every show, an SOS set leaves the audience feeling like they just climbed a mountain.

Formed from the ashes of East Coast powerhouse bands The Jimmy Swift Band and Ruby Jean and the Thoughtful Bees—Scientists of Sound are producers Craig Mercer (guitar, keys, drums, bass, vocals), Colin Crowell (keyboards, bass, trumpet), and Sean Parsons on drums.

Scientists of Sound were named Electronic Artist of the Year at the 2021 Nova Scotia Music Awards for their most recent album The Beginning (of the beginning of the end). They are currently working on a new EP slated for a 2023 release.

Nova Scotia born and based Pro Motocross Athlete, Tyler Medaglia, is hot off the summer race circuit and joining the party by adding an X Games element to the Smokey Sessions series.  The 5X Amateur Champion, 2X National Champion, 5X Team Member of Motocross Des Nation Canadian and AMA Arenacross Lites Champion will be performing stunts in between Scientists of Sound and Slowcoaster sets and his final stunt will be jumping over the Cape Smokey Lodge.

Get your dancing shoes and your cameras ready, Cape Breton; Smokey Sessions is going big in September and this is the end of summer party you are not going to want to miss!
